5) National League East
The National League East is a changing place. No longer will the Phillies and the Braves be atop, and no longer will the Mets and the Marlins be at the bottom. Philadelphia appears to be in a sort of fire-sale mode, and appears headed towards a dreadful season. The Braves had a weird offseason, as they traded Gattis, Justin Upton, and Jason Heyward, but also got Nick Markakis and Shelby Miller. I am not expecting them to contend. The Mets and the Marlins are two young rising teams who could contend for playoff spots this season. The Mets are built on pitching, while Miami is built on it’s great lineup. The powerhouse in the division is the Washington Nationals. They have the best team on paper in all of baseball and are expected to contend for a World Series.
The Nationals will be the NL East champions this season. I will be interested to see who comes up and takes second, the Marlins and the Mets. I think it will be the Mets, based on their pitching.
